Facebook Hacking - How To Do It And How To Defend Against It

By , January 31st, 2017, Tags: , , , 0 Comments

While this is mostly a web design blog, we have decided to dedicate this post to web security, mainly since front end and back end development has been merging more and more during the recent years.

Note that due to some recent database issues, we've had to upload the entire article here rather than create a dedicated post for it.

Facebook accounts are preferred targets of hackers and scammers these days, and it’s simple to grasp why.

Seeing that almost most people have a Facebook account it is a great opportunity for online hackers to gain access to the personal accounts of their enemies and then ruin their social lives.

Though there is absolutely no way to completely secure your Facebook account you will be reasonably protected if you abide by the following easy principles shown below:

Be careful of what is being posted on your Facebook wall

For starters, never ever interact with a post on your wall or in your news feed requesting you to click on a hyperlink to confirm your account details or provide your login details. Facebook will not request this kind of info in a public post. As soon as you're logged in to your account they'll under no circumstances require that you verify your password. Why would they? You are already signed in which means you of course know it, and whenever you are unable to log on because you lost your password you can find a easy to follow, yet secure way of resetting it.

Second to bear in mind is try to be cautious when giving access to Facebook apps. There are a whole lot of wonderful apps on the market and there isn't any reason to not utilize them. Still try to be cautious when giving access applications that you are not familiar with. The good thing to do is to try to only give access the applications from the top known companies such as Zynga etc. In case you really must install an unknown app then make absolutely sure you do not allow access to vital functions for example posting on to your contacts.

Next, when receiving emails from Facebook you should always be extremely cautious when links are included in the e-mail messages. Bear in mind that Facebook rarely will need you to click url's directly included in an mail. It is often preferable to sign in to Facebook to check out notifications rather than through email messages. Keep in mind that mail messages could be forged hence you should not trust the e-mail sender despite whom the e-mail looks like it's from.

Be wary of visiting unknown external urls that appear within your news feed or on your wall, regardless of whether they've been sent by a old contact. In cases where a intruder obtains access to a Facebook account then he might claim to be that user, and it may be weeks until the intruder is identifiedif it even happens at all!

Not everyone is a Facebook hacker...

Of course you shouldn't have to have your friends confirm every post they make. Only ask them to confirm that the post originated from them when you feel the post is suspicious or out of character for them. If you find out that your friend actually got hacked then make sure to tell them to change their password as soon as possible.

An excellent practice to bear in mind would be to look at your Facebook account activity every time you're about to go to bed. Take a glance at the activity throughout the day to check out if there's something you did not do. If you discover something you don't remember doing then go ahead and get rid of it from your profile.

How to not get hacked - 3 simple steps

For those who have not already, you will definitely get friend requests from persons who you don't know. Many will likely be genuine requests however some of those could be from hijackers aiming to hack into your Fb account. Generally speaking under no circumstances accept friend requests coming from people you don't know. No matter how friendly or sexy they look. Keep in mind that the person in the profile picture might not be the person who created the user. Read on for some points to watch out for:

  1. How old is the contacts' profile? In case it turned out that it was joined in the last seven days or so, We'd advise dismissing the friend request except in cases where it came from someone you know personally.
  2. Precisely what do the photos in the galleries look like? Do they appear to be photos that might be taken in the course of a standard life or were they perhaps acquired from some other place on the web such as a free image site? Be specially cautious if the photos are exposing photos of a female.
  3. The cracker will regularly make an attempt to advertise his virus web-sites thru his replica Fb profile. Therefore, the activity of the profile will quite often contain hyperlinks and adverts as opposed to the profile of a real human being.

Facebook profiles get hacked way too often right now and that's why this document was published. Anybody who browses FB regularly should really put these habits to use.
